The Honorary Secretary of the Australasian College of Dermatologists, Dr. Philip Artemi, has stated that it’s a ‘proven scientific fact’ that there is no benefit to be had by applying vitamin E to scars.

Stretch Marks

Again, another widely touted claim. And again, the evidence just doesn’t stack up.

There are many anecdotal claims by women who say that vitamin E has improved the appearance of their stretch marks. So we can’t dismiss it entirely.

But scientific studies don’t support it.

In six studies that looked at 800 pregnant women, no significant difference was observed in stretch mark development when using topical vitamin E preparations (4). 

Wound Healing

Currently, there’s inconclusive evidence about vitamin E’s healing ability.

In one study that treated 159 patients with vitamin E after they’d had surgery no benefit was found to the treatment (5). 

But another study did find a small improvement in results (6). 

More research is needed for us to have a clearer picture of its effectiveness.
